Greenhorn Valley is located about 20 miles southwest of Pueblo and anchors the southern leg of the Frontier Pathway Scenic Byway. Greenhorn Valley includes Colorado City, Rye and San Isabel and provides access to popular hiking areas such as Bartlett, Millsett and the San Carlos trails. Lodging is available in Rye, Colorado City and San Isabel. The Greenhorn Mountain commemorates the name of the celebrated Comanche Indian Chief Tabivo Naritgant. The Spanish gave him the nickname “Cuerno Verde” which translates to ‘green horn’ because of the head dress with tinted horns he wore in battle. The area, established in the late 1800’s, offers a wide selections of restaurants and amenities for travelers.
